The Daily
Check-in.

Two minutes. No script. Begin with something from your day, and let the words find their own way.

This is the daily practice that runs through the eight-week Naked Lens workshop. As you return to it, you build a record of your thoughts, expressions, and changing life.

Adapted from the book’s Daily Check-in and Instant Replay exercises. Keep going for up to five minutes if you’d like.

01 / SETTLE02 / SPEAK03 / REPLAY

Make yourself comfortable.

Find a place where you can speak freely. Open the camera on your own device and frame yourself so your face and gestures are visible. Take a breath. This entry can be just for you.

Start wherever you are.

Press record on your camera. What stayed with you from today? Begin with one small detail and let one thought lead to the next. If you draw a blank, talk about that. Give yourself two minutes, with room for pauses.

Listen with some curiosity.

Stop recording. When you’re ready, play the entry back and listen as you would to a friend. What catches your attention? If you notice a judgment about your voice or appearance, let it pass and return to what you’re expressing.

Your first entry

You’ve made a beginning.

Give the recording a date so you can find it again. Return tomorrow and see what comes up. Over time, these small entries become a conversation with your own life.
